The Reserves put up a good fight to be undone by some rusty defending.
It was over 3 weeks since the Reserves played a game due to our home pitch, Priory Park been made un-playable and scheduled rest week(s) set by the league.
The Reserves welcomed back Huseyin Edin missing from the team due to an ankle injury. Missing from the Reserves was Keeper John Betteridge (flu) so Adam Faulkner came in to cover for John as the First team’s fixture was postponed due to un-playable playing surface.
First Half
From the off, the Town struggled to find their flow and the defence was put under immediate pressure. Keeper Adam Faulkner had to produce 2 good saves, one from diving at the players feet and blocking the players shot and tipping a good shot from 18 yards over the bar. But it wasn’t long till the opponents found the opening they deserved. Long ball over the top caught out the defence cold and Overton’s forward went in one and one with the Waltham keeper and slotted the ball into the open goal. It wasn’t long after the Waltham defence was caught cold again, as a defensive mistake lead to yet another one on one and once again no failing, the ball was slotted in from a difficult angle, 2-0. Dispite Overton’s dominance, the BWTFC actually hit the crossbar midway in the first half. Long goal kick from Adam Faulkner, caught the Overton’s defence out and striker Tevik Edin hit the cross bar.
Injury note:- Scott Sharpe had to come off with knee ligament(s) problem and Mark (Claus) Stanmore come on as a straight swap.
Half-Time 0-2
During half time the team was given a good talking to from the boss Stuart Saunders and once the second half had began, you could see it had a positive affect. The defence found it’s shape and we started to play some nice football but without really creating too much. Half way through the second half, Overton killed the game off with their third goal and it was a great strike. The BWTFC defence failed to clear the ball and it landed to an Overton player and he took a shot on the volley from 20 yards out, which sailed past Adam Faulkner into the goal. Overton nearly scored a forth on the stroke of full-time, corner came in to the near post which wasn’t dealt with, Overton player headed the ball over the Keeper and it was cleared off the line by Ryan Dickson acrobatically.
I must add Ryan Dickson produced a lot better display in the second half, well done!
Full-Time 0-3
