A hard fought draw between these two sides was overshadowed by a horrific leg break suffered by one of the BTC players in the first half. The thoughts of everyone are with the player and we all wish him a speedy recovery.
This was always going to be a tough one for Waltham without their influential captain Pete Williams but Ryan Leather did a great job in his absence.
1st Half:
Waltham started the game slowly and were put under some early pressure. However BTC failed to turn this pressure into any goals. And it was a pretty uneventful game until a Sporting BTC player chased down a through ball and in doing so collided with the onrushing Waltham goalkeeper Adam Faulkner breaking his leg in the process. It was a horrible injury and the game was delayed for 30 minutes until the paramedics managed to get the player onto the stretched and into the ambulance. From the restart Waltham looked a bit livelier and it was Mark Bailey who came closed to scoring with a 25 yard effort that came off the cross bar. Waltham then suffered a scare from a corner but luckily as the ball sailed towards the goal Nathan Hunt was on hand to clear. Sporting were lucky to end the half with 10 men on the pitch when their captain struck Alan Cooper on the side of the head but the referee seemed to miss the incident and Sporting survived.

2nd Half:
The second half was hard fought affair with both teams digging deep but failing to produce any goals. Waltham struggled with the setting sun in their eyes and were again thankful to Hunt as he cleared off the line for the second time in the game. But at the other end it was BTC who were fortunate to escape when Ryan Leather headed onto Martin West who tried to turn it goal wards but his flick was well blocked by a BTC defender. The game finished with Waltham under quite a bit of pressure but some solid and well organised defending saw them through to the end of the game unscathed.
