Goal in the dying minutes give QK Southampton the points.
Bishops Waltham Town was hoping to end the disappointing run of 3 games without a win against QK Southampton. The pitch was very wet due to the onslaught of rain from the past 2 days, but the referee deemed the pitch playable.
Centre Backs Alan Cooper (on holiday) and Ryan Leather (ill) were missing from today’s squad so manager Colin Plumhoff had to reshuffle the back line with Captain Peter Williams and Paul Hodder playing at the heart of defence, Richard Parrett Left Back and James Blanchard at Right Back. Other than that the team was pretty much unchanged.
First Half:
The first half started and both teams struggled to adapt, very scrappy and with no flow as the players on the pitch were trying to adapt to the greasy playing surface. After 25 minutes both teams adapted and started to create chances. Nathan Hunt blazing over the bar with only the keeper to beat after being put through.
QK Southampton had a couple of chances, scramble to the box keeper Adam Faulkner had to be alert as a piece of trickery and a 4 yard back heel allowed the ball to go through the covering centre back legs and Faulkner managed to save on the line. The home team’s big chance came from an uncleared corner and a QK’s forward strike put cleared off the line from Richard Parrett as the shot had Faulkner well beaten.
In the right end, Richard Parrett had a goal disallowed for adjudged offside according to the home team’s lineman. This decision ultimately lost Bishops Waltham the points and was controversial.
Second Half 0-0:
Bishops Waltham started the half full of tempo as we caused the QK Southampton defence all kinds of trouble. As the attacks flowed in from the right as James Blandchard and Nathan Hunt was allowed in on a number of occasions. James Blandchard had an attempt well saved from the QK Goalkeeper and Nathan Hunt’s deliveries caused scrambles in the box and in one instance Ashley Baddams 4 yard shot was somehow saved again by the QK Goalkeeper.
Everytime QK Attacked, Bishops Waltham managed to get the ball back due to Paul Hodder’s determination and good judgment and due to balls over the top just running all the way to Faulkner. On one occasion, the QK striker went through one on one with Faulkner. Faulkner decided to stay his ground and the QK striker dragged the ball wide of the goal.
It looked as if the game was going to end stalemate, but 5 minutes to go Richard Parrett miss-kicked and QK winger went through free on the left and his crossed was met by the QK Striker who then passed the ball into the goal.
Final Score 0-1.
