Bishops Waltham Town
football club
The Sporting
Bishops Waltham Football Club is a football club formed in
2009 with the merging of Sporting BTC and Bishop's Waltham
Town. The merge actually took place in 2008, but the Hampshire
Premier League rules deadline for name changes had already
passed, meaning the name change had to wait until 2009. This
club has had a rich history, however, and has been playing
football for over 100 years.
Based in Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire, England, this football
club was formally not associated with Sporting BTC Football
Club. Originally their name was actually Bishop's Waltham
Town, which was established way back in 1901. It was in 1986
that they joined Division Two of the Hampshire League, and
were promoted to the Hampshire Premier League in 1999. They
joined division 2 of the Jewsons Wessex League in 2004, but
due to their poor play pulled out of the league in the middle
of the 2006-2007 season. Bishops Waltham then reformed for the
2007 season, and, along with Sporting BTC, was one of the
founding members of a newly organized Hampshire Premier
League.

Hampshire Premier League, and even won the league that season.
After that season, however, Sporting BTC's finishes were
mid-table while Bishop's Waltham finished near the bottom of
the league. The two teams merged in 2008 and played under the
Sporting BTC name, and the results were mixed. They finished
near the bottom of the table, but also played in the semi
finals of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup and the Southampton
Senior Cup. Currently, they are part of the Hampshire Premier
Football League for the 2009-2010 football season. They play
in the Saturday Hampshire Premier League, while also competing
in the Southampton Senior Cup and Hampshire Intermediate Cup
on a yearly basis.
In 2009 came the announcement that Sporting Bishops Waltham
had acquired a local youth team that was to play in Hampshire
Youth League in 2009/2010. This is a good sign that the
Sporting Bishops Waltham Football Club could have a bright
future. For a team that has had a long history in English
football, it appears the merger with Sporting BTC will only
add to their great tradition. |
